Get Your Bets Ready! Del Mar Racetrack 2022

Pull down your fanciest hat from the closet and pair it with your best suit or daytime dress because the 2022 Del Mar Racetrack season is upon us. This year, opening day is on Friday, July 22nd with special events to kickstart a horse racing tradition that has been alive in Del Mar since 1938.

Wondering what to wear to the races this year? Think old Hollywood glamor with a more casual vibe. The dress code at the racetrack is all about “California chic,” an outfit that is both casual and sophisticated. Attire that says I am going to enjoy a warm summer day in Del Mar by the beach and I am also betting on horses!

There are 16 different dining options at the Del Mar Racetrack offering everything from fancy fare to casual concessions. The Racetrack has a delicious selection of custom cocktails, including the Del Margarita and the Strawberry Stirrup. 

On opening day, the Del Mar Racetrack turns into a sea of colors when attendees show up for the Opening Day Hats Contest. There are more than $4,000 in prizes for those who win the best hat competition in the following categories: Best Racing Theme; Most Glamorous; Best Fascinator; and Best Flowers. Show off your creation before 3 p.m. in the Plaza de Mexico on opening day.

Opening day at the Racetrack is also an opportunity to be part of The Grand event at the Turf Club Tahona Terrace. Special tickets are required and feature The Grand margarita, Turf club admission, valet parking, and a complimentary premium buffet.

The Uncorked Wine Festival is back at Del Mar Racetrack this year on Saturday, August 13th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. Enjoy over 100 wines and champagnes from around the world, local food trucks, live races, and great music. The event benefits a local nonprofit Urban Surf 4 Kids (www.US4K.org), which helps at-risk kids through water and surf therapy.
